On Wednesday, October 27, the San Jose Planning Commission will vote on recommendations to amend the General Plan to change the land use in Coyote Valley from industrial development to open space and agriculture. Please email the Planning Commission and tell them to protect Coyote Valley!
Setting the Stage for Historic City Council Vote in November
The process of protecting Coyote Valley has been underway for a long time. Previous successes included:
- passing of 2018’s Measure T which provided funding for land acquisition in Coyote Valley
- using Measure T funding to permanently conserve nearly 1,000 acres of open space in North Coyote Valley
- overwhelming vote of the General Plan 4-Year Review Task Force recommending to change the land use in North Coyote Valley from industrial development to open space and agriculture.
The Planning Commission’s vote on Wednesday will set the stage for the vote by the City Council in November. If these recommendations are approved by the San Jose City Council, it will finally put an end to threats of warehouses and other industrial development in this critical open space area.
In addition, the Santa Clara County Planning Commission will soon be voting on the Coyote Valley Climate Overlay Zone, which will give additional protections to Mid and South Coyote Valley. We will let you know how you can contact both the San Jose City Council and the County Planning Commission to ask them to vote for all of these important protections for Coyote Valley.
Please email the Commissioners and tell them to support the recommendations from staff and the Task Force to protect Coyote Valley!
