We did it! Last night, the San Jose City Council unanimously voted to change the land use in North Coyote Valley from industrial to open space and agriculture, and to remove the Urban Reserve designation from Mid Coyote Valley.

Now, our efforts move to Santa Clara County where the Planning Commission will consider the Coyote Valley Climate Resilience District this Thursday, November 18. Please email the County Planning Commission and ask them to recommend approval of the Coyote Valley Climate Resilience District to the Board of Supervisors!

County Should Designate Mid and South Coyote Valley a Climate Resilience District

With its Tuesday night vote, the San Jose City Council has finally ended the decades of attempts to build urban-scale development in North and Mid-Coyote Valley. Now, Santa Clara County will decide whether to approve amendments to its General Plan and zoning ordinance that will restrict the size and scale of any future non-agricultural development in Mid and South Coyote Valley.

The proposed changes will discourage the construction of monster-sized luxury mansions in this rural area, while still allowing reasonably-sized homes. The changes would better support the agricultural use of land in Mid and South Coyote Valley by restricting the total footprint of non-agricultural buildings and structures. In addition, for lots larger than 5 acres, any new residences must not conflict with the required on-site agriculture.

What You Can Do

Please email the County Planning Commission and ask them to recommend approval of the Coyote Valley Climate Resilience District to the Board of Supervisors!

After the County Planning Commission votes on a recommendation, it will go to the Board of Supervisors for final approval. That vote will occur in December; we will alert you when the date of the vote is near.
